If you haven't heard, on July 28, 2010, OSHA's updated construction standard on Cranes and Derricks went into effect. According to OSHA QuickTakes, the updated standard will effect approximately 267,000 businesses with 4.8M employees. The previous rule was based on 40-year-old standards, and the update was prompted due to a significant number of fatalities associated with this equipment.
Go to http://www.osha.gov/doc/cranesreg.pdf to view the new standard in regulatory text. You can also find a fact sheet on OSHA's final rule web link.

Suzanne - Thanks for sharing! Requiring crane operators to be certified will be a significant change and it is definitely needed. The link to the Quick Fact Sheet is great.
